Course description

The master’s subject Education and Care in Early Childhood can be combined with the other master’s subjects in the Faculty of Human Sciences and Faculty of Arts and Humanities as part of a dual-subject master’s model. Its contents and goals are based on key topical research themes from general and specialised educational sciences, as well as from the rehabilitation sciences.

The degree programme is designed to have a research focus that allows students to develop the ability to critically and reflectively analyse and appropriately evaluate complex social issues of the present and future (climate crisis, migration (displacement), poverty and social inequality, exclusion/inclusion, diversity, digital transformation) from a variety of historical, theoretical and practical contexts at a high academic level. This means they will also be able to help innovatively shape the challenges that arise in research and practical early education due to social transformation processes with commitment and responsibility. The degree aims to provide students with an elaborated understanding of phenomena in early childhood from an educational science perspective, which is essential for tackling ethical, social and ecological issues related to coexistance. The degree programme is explicitly based on innovative future goals (UNESCO) and attempts to integrate the themes of pedagogics, the ethics of care, diversity reflection, inclusion and ecology more strongly into teaching and research in order to tackle and help shape the challenges of the 21st century that will be faced by this and future generations.
