The degree course focuses on artistic, music education and musicology themes for qualifying as a primary school teacher. Students will acquire the fundamental knowledge, skills and expertise related to music and its teaching. Great importance will be attached to music practice because it is a characteristic of the teaching subject “music”. Artistic practice provides students with the opportunity to gain aesthetic experience and learn about different forms of musical expression and creativity. The pedagogic and didactic potential that arises from the student’s own musical practice is acquired and reflected on by students during this practical training for application in their future profession as a teacher. Students will acquire instrumental, vocal and receptive skills during their music practice, both from an artistic and also professional teaching perspective. Students will also learn how to carry out musical work with groups. In the area of music education, students will study and reflect on modern and historical concepts and practical models. Students will learn about selected discourse and working methods related to the latest research in the area of music education. They will also try out musical didactic methods in practice. In the area of musicology, students will study and reflect on, for example, historical, cultural scientific, psychological, sociological, economic and ethnological aspects of music production and reception. Musicological methods will be presented and critically discussed. The musical practices covered include many forms ranging from art music though to popular music.
