Course description

The contents and goals of the master’s programme in General Educational Sciences is based on key topical research themes in the field of educational sciences.

Students not only acquire a systematic understanding of the theories found in educational science but the close ties to research themes also means students develop the ability to independently handle subject matter from the educational sciences as well as the skills to expertly reflect on the requirements, processes and goals of teaching practice.

The main focus is placed on educational and developmental theories, educational phenomena and models and their origins and development from a historical, cultural and societal perspective (time diagnosis, international comparison, historical shifts). Students also learn about the methods and models used when researching questions related to the educational sciences (empirical education research).

The aim is to provide students with an academic insight into current educational practice, which is characterised on the one hand by the conflicting trends of socio-economic and cultural globalisation and on the other hand by individual diversification. More than ever before, this means that educational and developmental phenomena in all of their various disciplinary and social complexity need to be intensively researched and then taught using examples from teaching practice.
